In 2012, Alex & Jonny the Co-Founders of GLP came across a restaurant for sale on All Saints Road in Notting Hill. This was to start their career in hospitality.
After a little research into the history of the site, they learned that in 1968 a Trinidadian community activist and civil rights campaigner, Frank Critchlow, had once owned this very restaurant. During this time it was an incredibly popular Caribbean restaurant called The Mangrove, customers included Jimi Hendrix, Nina Simone and Bob Marley to name a few. It also served as in informal head office for the Notting Hill Carnival.
Alex and Jonny had been throwing parties together for years and their plan for the restaurant was simple; Rum Punch can make anyone dance, jerk bbq was the tastiest way to cook chicken, and if they worked with some amazing dj & musicians who could spin Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Hip Hop and R&B they may be able to create a space that captured the Carnival spirit all year round.
With this in mind, Rum Kitchen launchd as a Caribbean inspired restaurant and rum bar using the best quality suppliers and freshest ingredients they could find, all the while to the sounds of Carnival. Since then they’ve launched two further sites, one in Kingly Court, Soho and the other on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton.
